So you’ve been taking spin classes at your local gym, and you want to get one for your home. Maybe you’re tired of waiting for a bike at your gym, want to get extra workouts in, or just want to transfer your workouts to your home. Spinning is one of the best ways to get in shape, while also loosing weight, as each hour you workout can help you burn from 300 to 1200 calories! Here’s how to choose a spin bike.
Finding that perfect spin bike – Investing in your own spin bike is a great way to avoid dealing with the local gym. You get to workout how you want and when you want. But, with all the different types of spin bikes, different brands, and a variety of price points, it’s going to take you a bit of research before you can choose the best spin bike for your needs.
Determine your budget – and your needs. – If you’re only looking to loose weight quickly, they type of bike you need may be different than if you plan on working out long-term. A simple rule of thumb is – the more you work the bike, and the harder you plan on working it, will determine the quality and cost. A more sturdy and reliable bike will cost more, but will last far longer than an inexpensive bike. Keep in mind also that if you are going to use the bike to replace what you’re doing at the gym, then you can factor the savings on your gym membership into the cost of the bike.
At Fitness 4 Home Superstore, we carry spin bikes from Precor, True, Spirit, and Schwinn. Spin bikes are available at all three Phoenix-area locations.
What features to look for. – Spin bikes are pretty simple. The most important thing to look for is the type of drive train. For example, the flywheel is what provides momentum, and is what engages the muscles you use during your workout. Cheaper models usually have flywheels in the 28+ lb range, heavier-duty models are more in the 40 lb. range.
Comfort and Resistance – It’s always good to try out a spin bike before you purchase it. You want to make sure that you can adjust and set the bike up for your comfort. Long workouts on a spin bike become short, ineffective rides if your not comfortable. Some of adjusting the bike is also testing out changing and adjusting the bikes resistance, to make sure you can easily change up those setting to get the most effective workout.
Once you’ve found a bike that seems to work for your needs and budget, that is comfortable and easy to use, you’ll find you enjoy working out at home when you feel like it! And, you may find your workouts are more enjoyable as well.
